Job Title: Assistant Chief Engineer

Job Summary:
The Assistant Chief Engineer plays a key role in supporting the Chief Engineer in supervising and coordinating activities related to the general operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and craft services. This position also serves as a working group leader in these areas. In the Chief Engineer's absence, the Assistant Chief Engineer assumes the Chief Engineer's responsibilities and supervises personnel accordingly.

Essential Functions:
1. Possess knowledge of the operational and administrative responsibilities of the Chief Engineer to assume the Chief’s duties in their absence.
2. Operate mechanical and electrical equipment, providing power, heat, refrigeration, air conditioning, and ventilation to the job site.
3. Ensure that all Journey Level Stationary Engineers are trained and qualified in the safe operation and maintenance of environmental systems, including training personnel in proper operating procedures and techniques.
4. Develop and maintain a safety program, providing safety training and maintaining safety equipment, including all lockout/tagout equipment.
5. Enforce appropriate safety regulations.
6. Possess knowledge of and maintain the Preventative Maintenance (PM) program.
7. Monitor PM and repairs performed by Journey Level Stationary Engineers to ensure the highest quality performance.
8. Maintain Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) logs as required by the State.
9. Assist the Chief Engineer in maintaining an attendance program and shift schedules, as well as developing work assignments for each employee.
10. Develop and maintain a Journey Level Stationary Engineers’ area of responsibility inspection program.
11. Stand scheduled shift watches and work with the tools of the stationary engineer’s trade.
12. Conduct regular inspections, report findings, and make recommendations to the Chief Engineer.
13. Adhere to quality levels and standard practices for all work performed.
14. Handle special work assignments and trouble calls.
15. Perform any additional duties as directed by the Chief Engineer within the scope of contractual and union Contracts.

Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical education or certification is a plus.
• 4 years of experience in a similar role, with strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems.
• Proficiency in safety procedures and lockout/tagout processes.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
