美国新闻与世界报导杂志(U.S. News & World Report)公布了2006 年全美顶尖医院排名。在全美合格的 5,189 家医院中，仅3%，约 176 家医院有至少一个专科在十六个医疗专科中排名前50名。仅十四家医院有至少六个专科在该专科中名列前茅。波士顿有两家医院上榜，显示出波士顿地区在哈佛大学医学院的影响下，拥有坚强的医疗资源。
